I'm certain that you've become aware of the violent storm that cut through many southern states, taking souls and forever altering the landscape, as simple a a brushstroke painting a red streak in the horizon. As we see the images in the news and process the focus on those all over the south who are need in whatever form, I hope that we will remember those who are suffering here in Arkansas as well.
In Vilonia and in Pocahontas and Corning, people have lost their lives or loved ones or homes or businesses. Or they are flooded in their area, or they can't get to an area to reach their loved ones because of the high water or washed out road. I've heard many stories of devastation, desperation and pure lack this week.
Some were fed in Vilonia today who hadn't eaten in days. I spoke to a mother who drives a truck and was separated from her young daughter, having to leave her in the sitter's care as the river rose until the road wasn't passable. A husband expressed his regret about being separated from his wife across what would normally be a two-hour drive; turned into a good six-hours due to the detour. He wouldn't be able to make it back to work in time if he took that drive. A visiting nurse couldn't get to her patients who were normally an hour away on dry land.
While we watched the royal wedding on television, or American Idol or the NFL Draft, our Arkansas neighbors didn't have electricity or a car or won't recover heirloom photographs or or in some cases, their dearest loved ones.
I plead with you, as my heart and vigor is spent at this time, please give SOMETHING. If you can't donate to the
Red Cross, please call them and find out the needs. If you can't help in a physical way, please help spiritually. If nothing else positive comes of these tragedies, there can be an increase in those who pray. You can never overspend there.
The following are some images and resources. Please pass around the information for Arkansas to remember to begin helping at home, and so that we're certain to have legitimate and practical resources at hand.
