I've been pretty torn about something for a while, so I decided to post a poll about it on MySaline.com. I've been thinking of whether it's a good idea to merge my two websites. One is just for Saline County. The other is for the whole state.
On the face of it, the decision is simple. To expand to a larger market is a natural progression. You just merge both sites and you only have the costs and the work of one site.
Easy, right? Sure, unless you have a group of people who have finally found something that's just theirs, that they don't have to share with the whole state or even with just central Arkansas. The results of the poll were split, but the comments when hard toward keeping MySaline.com as a separate entity.
Member Rick Nation put it succinctly when he wrote, "I'd prefer keeping the MySaline site and dropping Arkansite if comes to one or the other. There are many Arkansas sites, but few that are dedicated exclusively to Saline county."
Other members then chimed in, sharing variations of his sentiment. I have to agree that MySaline is special. I don't think however, that it's dear to locals because of the name of it - although it is the name that draws many Saline residents to it. What makes MySaline.com special is that the members share a main thoroughfare in town. They shop at the same stores and eat at the same restaurants. They ponder over the same oddities discovered around town.
Side note: That reminds me. Did anyone else see a giant rubber ducky on the inside eastbound lane of Interstate 30 a few mornings ago? I normally reserve my hallucinations for the evening hours.
Okay, back to the preachy stuff. They live by the same city ordinances. They show up to vote at the same polling precinct. They go after their side of whether a county should be wet or dry. Woops, the publisher told me not to write about that.
